A special Career Guidance and counseling programme held at Government Day Secondary Schools Mairi in Jere local government, Borno State, Nigeria in honour of Dr. Umar Alkali an education philanthropist. The programme was organised to encourage him and his likes in the society to scale up and be consistent in extending such gesture at this trying time. They offer scholarship to hundreds of tertiary institutions students. The central aim of the programme is to assist the young men and women make better decision of their future career, which would in long run address the problem of unemployment in the near future. The World Bank has said it needed time to give detail on how it dispense the recovered assets stolen by Late General Sani Abacha and how it was spent by the Nigerian government. The bank made the disclosure in a response to a request by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) asking for information on the spending of recovered assets stolen by the late Head of State. In her letter dated October 15, 2015 and signed by Ann May of the Access to Information Team, AIT, the Bank said: “In response to your request under AI3982, we would like to inform you that we are still considering your request and need additional time to provide you with a more comprehensive response.” It stated further that, “In most cases, we will be able to respond within twenty (20) working days from receipt of a request for information. Youth empowerment is often addressed as a gateway to intergenerational equity, civic engagement and democracy building.  Government should embark on youth empowerment so as to mitigate the hardship of our teeming youths. The Chairman of NERC, Dr Sam Amadi, who was speaking yesterday at a final public consultation on the tariff review in Abuja where Distribution companies (Discos) proposed tariff increases ranging from 5per cent to 83 per cent for residential customers, said it was important that a cost reflective tariff is in place for the sector. Amadi assured consumers that the commission would not allow the Discos to recover more than necessary, noting that any increase in tariff would be backed by a commitment contract by the discos on service improvement. According to Amadi, NERC would review the proposals by the Discos and come out with a new tariff regime that ensures that prudent costs by the operators are recovered and at the same time ensures that consumers are protected from undue exploitation. The Lagos State Government, through the State Safety Commission has issued a Stop - Work - Order to Cobel Construction Company, Lagos Island for non compliance with the stipulated safety standards in work place environment after a recent inspection exercise to the organisation. The Director General of the Commission, Mr. Fouad Oki, who gave the directive, said the order was issued after a series of abatement notices were served without  compliance by the said company.  Oki expressed displeasure over the indifferent attitude demonstrated by the management of Cobel, stressing that the Commission will not condone a total disregard and non-compliance with stipulated guidelines on safety thereby engendering the lives of workers. President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday in Abuja declared his administration's commitment to boosting national productivity, by among other things, taking all necessary actions to end incessant strikes by workers in vital sectors of the Nigerian economy. At a meeting with the Permanent Secretary and Directors of the Federal Ministry of Labour, President Buhari said that he was particularly distu rbed by the seemingly endless strikes in Nigeria's health sector which have contributed to the fall in the standard of health services available in the country.
