In its efforts to promote girl child education Kano State Government has introduced summer camp scheme for girls pupils. This was made known by the Deputy Governor and commissioner education Prof. Hafiz Abubakar while inspecting the programme at Kanti Primary School in Bichi. He said the programme etails giving special training to girl pupils during holidays in order enhance their learning capacity. Prof Abubakar who lamented the backwardness of the state in female education expressed Gov Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration's determination to reverse the situation. He said a situation where girls education is terminated from Primary or secondary levels need to be changed in view of societal need for female medical doctors, teachers and other professionals He charged parents and other stakeholders to rise to the challenges and support girls to pursue education at all levels. The Deputy Governor stated the Summer Camp programme is jointly being undertaken by Kano State Government and Educational Support Programme in Nigeria of British Government. An N2.4 million bribery scam is rocking the Delta State House of Assembly. SaharaReporters learned that the Speaker, Monday Igbuya, and other members of the State House of Assembly allegedly collected N200,000 bribes from the twelve commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for “screening.” Confiding in a SaharaReporters correspondent, a senior management staff person of the State’s House of Assembly who did not want to be named disclosed that one of the commissioner nominees told him in confidence how the twelve nominees’ arms were twisted to pay N200,000 each. The ultimatum was that without the N200,000 none of them would be cleared by the lawmakers.
