Derek Extra-judicial Killing, Police Officers Dismissed After 15 Months

Three senior Police Officers from the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Cross River State Police Headquarters Diamond Hill involved in the extra-judicial killing of Derek Maurice Ben and 6 others on April 17th, 2014 have been officially dismissed from the Nigeria Police as reported by Cross River Watch.

They were dismissed after appearing before the Police Service Commission that sat in Abuja recently, the trio include: DSP Horsfall Ntinefruo, ASP Etim Anoke and ASP Raphael Ewah. The three have been awaiting their verdict long after other junior officers involved in the case had been dismissed and are awaiting trial.

The 11 junior Officers dismissed over 8 months ago after facing the Police orderly room trial are: Insp. Erienekpa Fireman, Sgt. Anyin Gregory, Sgt. Lawrence Egbe, Cpl. Okay Onyama, Sgt. Anthony Idoko and Cpl. Unyime Jumbo.

Others are: Cpl. Edidiong Jeremiah, Insp. Gershom Isotuk, Sgt. Okili Akpokabowei, Cpl. Afam Michael, and Cpl. Patrick Kokei.

Meanwhile, the family of late Derek Maurice Ben has thanked the Director of Public Prosecution, Ministry of Justice, Cross River State for the support he has extended in ensuring that justice is done in this manner.

The family made the commendation through their Legal Counsel, Barrister James Ibor, in a letter dated 7th October, 2015 with the reference number: BRC/CAL/DPP/VOL.10/141/2015.

In the letter which was made available to CrossRiverWatch, the family reminded the Director that “the suspects are yet to be arraigned in a court of law despite conclusion of investigation in the case and the Attorney Generals recommendation for prosecution of the suspects since August 2014”.

According to the letter which was signed by the Principal Counsel, Barrister James Ibor, appealed that “necessary legal steps be taken to arraign the suspects in court as required by law”.

State House of Assembly collected bribes from commissioner nominees

An N2.4 million bribery scam is rocking the Delta State House of Assembly. EFCC Arrested NAFDAC DG

Two weeks after whistleblowers at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) wrote a powerful petition to President Muhammadu Buhari alleging monumental fraud and waste of funds by its Director-General, Dr. Paul B. Orhii, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday swung into action. Dr. Orhii was grilled for several hours on issues relating to fraud and misappropriation of funds worth billions of naira, a source told SaharaReporters. The petitioners had accused the Director-General of awarding frivolous contracts and supplies; manipulating NAFDAC publicity and donations; international air travel racketeering; and compulsory recertification by bottle and sachet water producers.
