When Immunity Is Impunity - Ahmed Nabil

By Ahmed Nabil
They, in an effort to maintain their power, relied on acts of convenience, political strength and "influence" against justice for personal gains and superiority. Which, however, defend the corrupts by preventing them from shaking the rope of justice because of "immunity" translated as "defence" even after shady deals and unspeakable crimes.

It has become so pervasive in our society, the more we hear about this, the less we trust government. Some of the lawmakers, out of this scope, misbehave in the name of "immunity" without facing judgement, the devastating effects of bad examples and insolence. It is somehow hard to imagine how by deliberate intent, tyranny of the many was just as much of a threat as tyranny of the one or the few, but nowadays, the opposite is the case, the powerful, rich and influential exercise the wheel of power without pause button, and traced the view of many, out of the rod of naivety, to believe power is another form of "chance" not "system" of leadership.

The negative political implications of these obtuse thoughts and scheme that confirmed every patriot must be part of the bad wind, and when some leaders observe politics as "personal bussiness", no doubt that the leaders will dance to destroy the meaning, aims and styles of leadership, since that right to organize is just a nightmare. Some of the handlers blamed faulty institutions not knowing when the root is weak, it will reflect after germination.

These reforms shared several elements, which, ofcourse, formed weak signal and corrupt waves in our society today. This illustrates the point that there is a need to design effective policies and well-established body of practical reforms, equality and tentative results about the adverse effects of corruption to all, and the devastating impact of misconduct and indiscipline will be observed with justice without delay or denial. In my school of thoughts, immunity without justice is impunity. Nobody is above justice, as far as I'm concerned.

Corrupt institutions therefore define other systems as systems without force, ethnic or political influence, since corruption is not just for fashion, but another way of sharing the crown of pride to those with sincerity of purpose. Immunity as defence after fradulent activities and quagmires smashed our value and treasures with corrupt waves, with greed as the heart of corruption. "We learn how to cut down trees cutting them down", a proverb, just as the fight against corruption is possible when fighting corruption not after campaigns or polka dance feast against corruption. It is very simple for crooks to buy their way out of punishment when immunity is used against justice, and it is, as well responsible for fostering organized crimes against truth.

This, however, are issues at the center of the public debate on democratic governance, whereby society seeks to instigate some institutional mechanisms to ensure public officials act in the interest of the public and justify their actions that some federal bodies refused to tackle because of immunity. Impunity, lack of enforcement and transparency in policy-making, smashed our values and achievements. The fact is, as leaders, justice is your strenght not immunity.

BUHARI: TURNING APPOINTMENTS INTO DISAPPOINTMENTS

By Jaafar Jaafar Ponder over this Hausa proverb: “sawun keke ba’a gane gabanka”, which roughly translates to “a bicycle’s contact patch does not tell where it comes from or where it heads to”, and see how it aptly describes Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari. Bearing in mind the current realities in our polity, how would you, in your wildest dream, think the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will come from the North? The very North that has a President, a Senate President, a Speaker, a Head of Service, a Chief of Staff, a Chief Justice, and what not? While Mr. President is likened to the proverbial “sawun keke”, the pigmentation of his appointments may be likened to “birgimar hankaka”, literally meaning the wallow of a pied crow. When a pied crow wallows, the Hausa say, you will see both the white patch on its gullet and the black plumage that covers most of the bird’s body. In the appointment of the GMD of NNPC, President Buhari showed Nigeria...
