TO OUR GALLANT MILITARY - Abdullahi Yusuf

Nigeria Army
By Abdullahi Yusuf
The efforts of our gallant military in recent times has been acknowledged by all and sundry. We the people of the northeast have seen hell, and that is why we are in support of any measures that can bring an end to these killings and destruction. We cannot afford to have a failure at this point in time, the issue of insecurity is a matter that is of concern to all, and it should be addressed collectively, both the civil populace and the security agencies have a stake in it.

The statement from the military yesterday accusing some leaders in Borno of sabotaging the efforts of the military came as a suprise to many. What the people expect is whoever is either directly or indirectly involved in these killings and destruction should be arrested without any delay. We expect action from our gallant soldiers and not accusations or blame games. Borno and indeed Nigeria is above the self serving interest of any individual, and as such no one involved should be spared.

The govt and the people of northeast have paid the Supreme price in the fight against these nehilis. Borno state govt and indeed the youths have contributed positively in finding a lasting peace in the state. The Civilian JTF had worked hand in hand with the military with the support of the state govt under the leadership of governor Kashim Shettima who had provided logistics support to both the military and the Civilian JTF to insure that the activities of these animals is
brought to a holt. Therefore, the collective sacrifices of the good people of Borno should not be thrown to the dogs on the alter of certain interest.

The military should also look inwards because there are some of them who are engage in taking action that sometimes are counter productive. What happened in Biu on sallah day was a deliberate attempt to instigate the people against the military, but our youths exhibited a high sense of maturity and understanding, all for the interest of peace.

To this end, it is important that the military should rather take action against anyone who is found wanting rather than rushing to the media with excuses. Gone are the days when our soldiers will be complaining instead of taking action to safeguard and protect the territorial integrity of our beloved nation.

An N2.4 million bribery scam is rocking the Delta State House of Assembly. SaharaReporters learned that the Speaker, Monday Igbuya, and other members of the State House of Assembly allegedly collected N200,000 bribes from the twelve commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for “screening.” Confiding in a SaharaReporters correspondent, a senior management staff person of the State’s House of Assembly who did not want to be named disclosed that one of the commissioner nominees told him in confidence how the twelve nominees’ arms were twisted to pay N200,000 each. The ultimatum was that without the N200,000 none of them would be cleared by the lawmakers. However, the source said, “If you were around during their screening on the floor of the House, you would have noticed that all the nominees were only told to take a bow” and to go. An aide to one of the commissioners who pleaded anonymity confided in SaharaReporters that the money was definitively give...

Two weeks after whistleblowers at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) wrote a powerful petition to President Muhammadu Buhari alleging monumental fraud and waste of funds by its Director-General, Dr. Paul B. Orhii, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday swung into action. Dr. Orhii was grilled for several hours on issues relating to fraud and misappropriation of funds worth billions of naira, a source told SaharaReporters. We live like rats, yet Nigerians want us to be their friends –Policemen

He was drenched with sweat by the time he wriggled himself through the narrow entrance of his room into the passageway. Looking very depressed and drowsy that Thursday afternoon, he dragged himself along the hole-ridden passage and collapsed into the rickety sofa beside the staircase that leads to the upper floors in one of the buildings in the barracks. With frustration written all over his face, Emma Uden (not real names), a sergeant in the police, kept muttering to himself, but dosed off few minutes later. Apparently disturbed by the music blaring in his neighbourhood, Uden could not but open his eyes feebly and intermittently. His pain was obvious to anyone who came across him, but the reason for his frustration was largely unknown. However, as Uden would later tell our correspondent in a conversation he grudgingly consented to, since the apartment allotted to him in the barracks collapsed in June last year, he and his family had been living in the kitchen...
