BORNO ELDERS : The Military, Police and DSS Are Incharge of Security And Should Find Out Who Pose Security Threat To Nigeria

The Borno Elders Forum(BEF) wishes to felicitate with all Nigerians on
the just concluded Eid-El-Kabir. We equally wish to condole with
fellow Nigerians over the demise of some of our Pilgrims at the 2015
Hajj stampede in Makkah. Our sympathies also go to all of us over the
unfortunate insurgency which continues to decimate our people with
attendant destruction of our society.
Within the last four days, this Forum has noted with great concern
comments coming from the social media over a critical statement
emanating from the Nigerian Military high command. In the said
statement, the leaders of the North East, particularly Borno State
were accused of not only aiding the Boko Haram insurgency but are also
beneficiaries of the horrific carnage.
While we recognise and acknowledge with the deepest sense of gratitude
the tremendous efforts of the Nigerian armed forces in crushing the
insurgency, we wish to state that the statement coming from the Army
is a generalised one. The Military, Police and the DSS are incharge of
security and are therefore privilledged to find out those who pose
security threat to the Nation. We therefore expect them to, after
having identified such persons or groups to promptly bring them to
justice. A generalised statement such as was made may not be the
solution to such serious problems.
The BEF will give its maximum support and cooperation to our Law
enforcement agencies in this regard. Indeed, apprehending those
identified to be involved in this devilish endeavour will be most
welcome by all Nigerians.
The Forum wishes to extend its appreciation to the Federal Government
of Nigeria for the tremendous support accorded to the Military and our
states in ending this madness. We particularly thank the Chiefs of
Army and Air Staff for their constant physical presence at the battle
front. Their examplery conduct and leadership have greatly enhanced
the military's capacity to end the insurgency. We are indeed grateful.
We call on our Soldiers and all other security outfits to sustain the
tempo of their great efforts of securing our country. We are looking
forward to the quick return of normalcy in our land.
We pray to the Al-Mighty Allah(swt) to strenthen the resolve of our
gallant fighters and also to expose all detractors in this struggle.

BUHARI: TURNING APPOINTMENTS INTO DISAPPOINTMENTS

By Jaafar Jaafar Ponder over this Hausa proverb: “sawun keke ba’a gane gabanka”, which roughly translates to “a bicycle’s contact patch does not tell where it comes from or where it heads to”, and see how it aptly describes Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari. Bearing in mind the current realities in our polity, how would you, in your wildest dream, think the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will come from the North? The very North that has a President, a Senate President, a Speaker, a Head of Service, a Chief of Staff, a Chief Justice, and what not? While Mr. President is likened to the proverbial “sawun keke”, the pigmentation of his appointments may be likened to “birgimar hankaka”, literally meaning the wallow of a pied crow. When a pied crow wallows, the Hausa say, you will see both the white patch on its gullet and the black plumage that covers most of the bird’s body. In the appointment of the GMD of NNPC, President Buhari showed Nigeria...

State House of Assembly collected bribes from commissioner nominees

An N2.4 million bribery scam is rocking the Delta State House of Assembly. SaharaReporters learned that the Speaker, Monday Igbuya, and other members of the State House of Assembly allegedly collected N200,000 bribes from the twelve commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for “screening.” Confiding in a SaharaReporters correspondent, a senior management staff person of the State’s House of Assembly who did not want to be named disclosed that one of the commissioner nominees told him in confidence how the twelve nominees’ arms were twisted to pay N200,000 each. The ultimatum was that without the N200,000 none of them would be cleared by the lawmakers. However, the source said, “If you were around during their screening on the floor of the House, you would have noticed that all the nominees were only told to take a bow” and to go. An aide to one of the commissioners who pleaded anonymity confided in SaharaReporters that the money was definitively give...

DSS Arrest Over 15 Key Boko Haram Members Across Nigeria - Tony Opuiyo

No fewer than 15 key members of the boko haram sect were arrested across Nigeria by the operatives of the DSS. According to a statement by a DSS official, Tony Opuiyo, said the infiltration of the terrorists into other states was a fallout of the pressure being put on the terrorists in their core areas of strength in the North-east. The statement by the DSS ; In line with the Department of State Services’, DSS, re-strategised Counter Terrorism measures to combat the menace of the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria, the Service has continued to make significant breakthroughs in this direction. This followed the rounding up of notable commanders and frontline members of the notorious group from different parts of the country. It should be noted that the group’s new pattern of movement and spread is necessitated by the pressure being put on them in their core areas of strength in the North East. 2. Consequently, a number of them have been arrested in Lagos, Kano, Pla...
