LET'S HELP OURSELVES FIRST

The growing mentality of Nigerians that government can do everything for us is becoming worrisome. It has reach a level where people will just relax and wait for the government to do everything for them. Some of us cannot even keep our houses clean, not to talk of the community, yet we are at the forefront of criticizing govt and those in position of authority. Its important to note that govt has the responsibility of providing basic necessity of life to the people, but even in the advance countries their govt have not solve all their problems, that's why you see them engage in community service.  It is unfortunate that some of us that do criticise govt have the drainage systems in front of our houses blocked, in fact some us dump refuse inside the water way or the drainage, yet shamelessly we are on the social media making noise about others. Some of us have never impacted anything in our communities, even to advice the younger generation on how to live a better life we don't do that, yet we condemn others. Isn't it funny that some of us are even graduates yet none of our younger generations are benefiting from our wealth of knowledge.  It is high that we begin to think twice and begin to do the right thing. Kudos to the youths of Hausari in Maiduguri, i saw them cleaning their environment collectively without waiting for the govt to come and do it for them, that's the spirit of community service. If youths from all over will collectively try to address some of the problems in our communities, and table the ones above our capacity to the govt, that will go a long in alleviating some of our challenges. If you are a graduate and you have a public school in your area, pls create time to at least volunteer to teach the children in that school.  For those who are rich and yet could not make impact in their communities, i say shame on you. There was a time i reported a case where one politician from Maiduguri hijacked a borehole that was constructed by govt for his community and only operate the borehole when he need water in his house, the worst part of it is that the poor people there had to pay some money before they fetch the water yet, govt is providing diesel for the borehole. This is heartlessness of the highest order, yet so many of the so called elites are engaged in such act.  Let's come together and impact positively in our communities, govt cannot do everything for us. Those of us criticizing, let us try to show what we have done on our own so that we can have the moral ground to criticise those in position of authority. Pls take not that am not saying we should stop criticizing our leaders constructively, but am saying let's help ourselves first.

State House of Assembly collected bribes from commissioner nominees

An N2.4 million bribery scam is rocking the Delta State House of Assembly. SaharaReporters learned that the Speaker, Monday Igbuya, and other members of the State House of Assembly allegedly collected N200,000 bribes from the twelve commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for “screening.” Confiding in a SaharaReporters correspondent, a senior management staff person of the State’s House of Assembly who did not want to be named disclosed that one of the commissioner nominees told him in confidence how the twelve nominees’ arms were twisted to pay N200,000 each. The ultimatum was that without the N200,000 none of them would be cleared by the lawmakers. However, the source said, “If you were around during their screening on the floor of the House, you would have noticed that all the nominees were only told to take a bow” and to go. An aide to one of the commissioners who pleaded anonymity confided in SaharaReporters that the money was definitively give...

EFCC Arrested NAFDAC DG

Two weeks after whistleblowers at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) wrote a powerful petition to President Muhammadu Buhari alleging monumental fraud and waste of funds by its Director-General, Dr. Paul B. Orhii, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday swung into action. Dr. Orhii was grilled for several hours on issues relating to fraud and misappropriation of funds worth billions of naira, a source told SaharaReporters. An EFCC source said Orhii was granted “administrative bail”...

We live like rats, yet Nigerians want us to be their friends –Policemen

He was drenched with sweat by the time he wriggled himself through the narrow entrance of his room into the passageway. Looking very depressed and drowsy that Thursday afternoon, he dragged himself along the hole-ridden passage and collapsed into the rickety sofa beside the staircase that leads to the upper floors in one of the buildings in the barracks. With frustration written all over his face, Emma Uden (not real names), a sergeant in the police, kept muttering to himself, but dosed off few minutes later. Apparently disturbed by the music blaring in his neighbourhood, Uden could not but open his eyes feebly and intermittently. His pain was obvious to anyone who came across him, but the reason for his frustration was largely unknown. However, as Uden would later tell our correspondent in a conversation he grudgingly consented to, since the apartment allotted to him in the barracks collapsed in June last year, he and his family had been living in the kitchen...
